Bridal makeup is one of the most important elements of your wedding. Finding a great hairstylist and makeup artist that fits with your personal style is key. They can help you figure out what styles will look fantastic on you, what colors will work etc. Seems like a big task, but it doesn’t have to be. I have some tips on finding a great artist, how to find your style and how to ask for what you want!
Most of us head to Pinterest or Instagram to find inspiration. We scroll through photos of models within the perfectly curated wedding fantasy, we see the heavy makeup looks and we start to worry about compromising our personal style in order to be social media worthy. While social media can be a great resource for inspiration, some of these looks seem like too much or simply do not translate to real life! What is a girl to do? This is where hiring an experienced hair/makeup artist will serve you well and pay off in the long run.
My advice for any bride is to take note of what of how you normally wear your makeup. Are you a full glam, Instagram lady with false lashes, highlight, contour, full coverage foundation and a bold lip? Or are you the type that only wears mascara and lip gloss? Or are you somewhere in between? If you don’t wear makeup on a daily bases, going for a full on glamour look might not be the best way to go. If you do wear full makeup, going super natural might make you feel like you don’t look like yourself. These are incredibly valid aspects to take into consideration. Makeup is a very personal thing and it is important that you look like yourself, no matter what this is.
3 Things to consider for your wedding makeup:
- What is the style of your wedding? Classic, Boho, Modern etc?
- How much makeup do you normally wear?
- What time of day is your wedding taking place?
Any good makeup artist will be able to assist you in editing down the endless stream of social media images. They will be able to help you to pair down which ones will work with your face shape, skin tone, bone structure and eye shape. They will be able to tell you what in these images is possible in real life, what colors you should consider, what style of makeup would work best for your wedding. They will be able to tell you what will work and what won’t. They will know the best products for your skin type, complexion and what will hold up over the day (if you are opting not to have them stick around for touch-ups).
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, show examples of how you normally wear your makeup, be realistic in expectations between social media and reality, and speak up if you don’t like something. Your artist wants to give you what you want and will be happy to make changes to give you your perfect look.
With all of this in mind, the most important thing is for you to love the way you look and look the way you love! Its your day, enjoy it!
